Flowers and materials
Following the designs created by residents of the town’s neighbourhoods, and after several months of work in various private and municipal metalwork and carpentry workshops to shape the arch designs and the templates for decorating the corridors, the frames are taken to the cultural centres in the town’s neighbourhoods to be decorated with plant materials.
Around one and a half to two months before the decorating begins, the residents gather the plant materials, which they have been collecting throughout the year by going out into the countryside to find the necessary flowers, seeds or moss.
A list of the plants used in the process can be found on the right-hand side; on the left, we see two display counters with samples, and above them one of the tapestries created during the previous Corpus Christi festivities.
Look at the colours… there’s no paint here; the colours are those of each flower, each seed or each leaf collected – everything comes from nature and depends on how it has dried.
