If there is one place on the island where this tradition has truly flourished… it is here, in Villa de Mazo.

For generations, the art of embroidery has been passed down from family to family, with women playing a key role in passing on this knowledge from one generation to the next.

Furthermore, it was a vital activity for the local economy; when La Palma was in crisis in the 19th century, embroidery became a source of  extra income for families, helping them to survive in many cases.

Many pieces made in Mazo have travelled beyond the island, helping to ensure that our island is also known as the Island of Embroidery.
