Embroidery in the bedroom
In the traditional bedroom, embroidery served not only a decorative purpose, but also a symbolic and sentimental one. Many pieces formed part of the trousseau and were painstakingly crafted by hand.
Embroidered sheets: Usually made of linen or cotton, featuring initials, flowers or borders.
Pillowcases: Embroidered with delicate motifs, often matching the sheets.
Bedspreads and bed covers: These may feature more elaborate embroidery or combinations of various techniques.
We draw your attention to the bed on display:
The headboard was exhibited at one of the first craft fairs held in Spain, embroidered in relief and lost stitch
Or the bedspread made using Richelieu stitch.
You can also see a wide range of examples of pillows, sheets, nightgowns, handkerchiefs and christening gowns – examples that represent the history of embroidery in the Canary Islands.
