El Corpus Christi IN Mazo (hall 1)
Corpus Christi originated in the Middle Ages as a celebration to honour the Eucharist, but it was not until after the Council of Trent that this feast became one of the most important in Christendom. In the town of Mazo, celebrations began almost at the same time as the church was established as a parish, around 1605.
The Corpus Christi celebration in Mazo is still held on Thursday, as was the custom in the Church. The village is completely transformed; the streets are decked out for the procession route with arches, walkways and tapestries made from flowers and natural materials, with all the residents taking part in their creation.
This festival was declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest in 1985.
This ephemeral art. It takes hours to create… and disappears in four days, and that is precisely where its magic lies.
What you will see are some examples from past festivals, which will be replaced by next year’s.
